Good, Evil (Thoughts)

I wish I could categorize a person. It would be a much simpler world if we could say that one man is evil, and the other good. That some are pure of heart, and some are corrupted. We don't exist in such a world. Human nature has been debated among philosophers for centuries, and is still debated today. It will continue to be debated, and in doing so, I feel that legitimizes the ideal that there may exist a stead fast, humanly objective nature for humanity. I can't help but believe that we can all be good. I don't think we ARE all good, only that we all have that potential. In many respects we are empty and void of anything. Our lives, our choices and our thoughts define who we are. Some are left astray despite their best intentions and those that love them. We all know someone we consider the height of evil. Someone who has shown us only pain and shallow ideals, and someone defined not by their truths but their well hidden flaws. We all want to call them evil and leave it at that. We all want to say they are lost, and are beyond saving. Are they? That is a hard question. We often failure to consider, since we ourselves are wracked with pain caused by the other, that they too are in pain. They too suffer, and they feel. Something, along their journey in life, has hurt them and have made them believe that their path is the only path that can be taken. Now, I am not saying we should all forgive them, nor to accept them. I am not implying we should all pity them, nor help them. All I am saying is that we should consider their own journey before painting them by a simplistic ideal. Evil. Good. Who they really are is a mystery. They don't even know. Who they could be will most likely be lost. That is heart breaking. Yes, they have hurt us. Yes, they have done things to us they should feel guilt, shame, and pain for. Saying that, they already hurt. They already have enough pain for one man or woman to handle. Who are we to apply more to them? Who are we to judge, and lay down our hatred upon them. So, if you are a wiser, stronger, and kinder person than I, help them. Hold them. Care for them, and show them that which they are incapable of showing themselves. Not for yourself, not for them, but because, as we know is in the deepest of our hearts, it is right.
